This year we'll be seeing a lot of 'Living Coral', Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2019, along with soft pastels, oranges and browns.

A new calendar year heralds the latest fashion, homewares and interiors style. I think its fun to incorporate a few new, chick features int the existing style of your home.

Affordable items that will work best with your current decor are small decorative  accessories such as throw cushions, rugs, lampshades and other soft furnishings.

Here are a some of the trends you'll be seeing lots of in 2019.

  • Chalk and matte finishes; A move away from shiny, iridescent finishes of the past will see more natural, earthy, chalk and matte finishes reign supreme. Pastels will also have their moment again - with recent international design festivals featuring hues such as mint, sea foam, pale lemon, soft mandarin and earthy colours such as mushroom.
  • Home as a 'wellness' haven'; We spend so much time in our homes, we'll see more people making them a space of light and calm through colour choice, ethical furniture and de-cluttering.
  • Vertical accents; Flat surfaces will have their moment in the spotlight in 2019. Making the most of vertical space with modern decorative molding and paneling, wallpaper and products from new technology such as laminated porcelain and fibreglass (in areas such as kitchens) will be huge.
  • Unique, handcrafted decor; Hall and coffee tables will be adorned with fun, unique, design elements that have been made by artisans. Irreverent and quirky, these items will give your home a distinctly unique feel. Anything that has a sense of humour and feels cultured will work, elevating the overall design aesthetic and create a bespoke feel.
